Smelting demonstration
Ancient Arts are a team of archaeologists with over 30 years of experience in exploring the past and recreating the technologies and skills of our ancestors.

They passionately believe that this knowledge has a valuable role in the modern world as a cultural, educational and environmental resource.

Ancient Arts will be demonstrating how our ancestors would have smelted copper on the Great Orme 4000 years ago.

The Copper Mines were the biggest and most important mines in mainland Britain. Over the past 30 years simple furnaces have been discovered on the Orme and through practical experiments using archaeological discoveries Ancient Arts have recreated them.

Come and watch them bring history to life by demonstrating how you turn malachite rock into copper !
For FREE access to the Copper mines on the 18th August to see the smelting and meet David Chapman from Ancient Arts and Merel our resident artist, please book onto the session below.
