Closing Event of mam.mom.mum

28th April 11am-4pm

Tedder House, 26 Augusta Street, Llandudno LL30 2AE

11am-12 pm: Barbara Lawson-Reay  – “Suffragists” of North Wales

Since retirement, Barbara Lawson-Reay has pursued her interest in local and modern social history and she is a popular speaker in the Llandudno area.

While researching for a talk about the Suffragist movement, she uncovered a wealth of information about local activity. Her book ‘Votes for Women: The North Wales Suffragists’ Campaign 1907-1914′ was published in 2015.

12.15-1pm: Melanie Miller – PROCESSIONS. -100 years of Women’s right to vote

To set the context of the project Melanie Miller will discuss how textile banners, along with other visual artefacts, played a key role in the campaign for women’s suffrage.

Melanie will provide a brief account of her own artistic practice, and will then

show examples of previous group projects to give an idea of how this particular project could develop.

The intention is that the Llandudno banner reflects the ideas of women and girls from in and around Llandudno who participate in the workshops.

Textile banner-making Workshops : 12th, 19th, 26th May, 11am-4pm
10 Vaughan Street, Llandudno

Tabitha Moses

Liverpool based artist Tabitha Moses will discuss her award winning work (Liverpool Art Prize) which includes the heart rending series “Investment” about infertility treatment.

During the month of April mother-artists Alana Tyson, Rebecca F. Hardy, Emily Hillman, Elly Strigner and Rebecca Gould made work in response to the theme of motherhood. The resultant works will be on display at Tedder House and the artists will be in discussion about their experience during the project mam.mom.mum as well as their wider experience of creating art as mothers.
